About us

The Pattern Analysis and Intelligence Computation for mUltimedia System (PICUS) research group at DIETI has been founded in memory of Prof. Antonio Picariello (also called ''PICUS"), who prematurely passed away, that spent his life following two main interests (research activities and continuous interaction with students).

In the last decade, it has focused its efforts on the following topics: Big Data Infrastructures for E-Health and Cultural Heritage, Intelligent Systems for medical suggestions, Big Data Analytics and Social Networks Analysis, Multimedia analysis and understanding for several applications (e.g., recommendation, event detection in video surveillance, etc.).

In the last few years, the PICUS group has specialized, on one hand, in the design of "explainable" and "secure" deep architectures for supporting different applications, both in the ICT and industrial fields and, on the other hand, in defining models and techniques for the representation, extraction and management of knowledge from multimedia data.
