Antonio Picus Picariello

Antonio Picariello was a full professor of Computer Engineering the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (DIETI) of the University of Naples Federico II. He received the Dr. Ing. degree in Electronic Engineering and the ph.d. degree in Computer Science and Engineering both from the University of Naples Federico II. Before joining the Department, He was a research associate at the University of Salerno and at the National Research Council of Italy, Institute for Hybrid Computers, Napoli. From 2016, he had been the Director of the National Lab on Information Technologies and Multimedia (ITEM) of the National Consortium for Computer Science and Engineering (CINI) and member of the Advisory Board of Big Data National Laboratory of CINI. His research topics included: big data, multimedia big data, multimedia databases, multimedia systems, uncertainty management in video surveillance systems, multimedia semantic analysis and management, video and text summaries, semantic web. He was the author/coauthor of more than 250 papers published in international journals and conferences. He had been General Chair and/or Program Committee member of several international Conferences and Workshops, associate editor, member of editorial board and guest editor of international journals. In 2006 he was the Winner of ”ComputerWorld.com” Horizon Awards Winner for ”OASYS” project, a joint work with University of Maryland Institutes of Advanced Computing Studies (UMIACS). He had been teaching Big Data Analytics and Business Intelligence, Data Base Systems and Computer Science Foundations before leaving.
